DFS Organizes Two-Day Workshop on Reservation Policy and Accessibility for PwDs
Bengaluru, August 23, 2026: The Department of Financial Services (Welfare Division), Government of India, organized a two-day workshop focused on the “Reservation Policy of Government of India & Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)” on August 20–21, 2026, at the Union Bank Knowledge Centre in Bengaluru.
The workshop was aimed at strengthening institutional understanding and operational clarity around reservation policies and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities across the banking, financial services and insurance sectors.
Workshop Brings Together Key Public Sector Institutions
The two-day programme brought together senior management and Chief Liaison Officers from a wide range of public sector institutions.
Participants included representatives from Public Sector Banks, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), NABARD, PFRDA, IRDAI, LIC, public sector insurance companies and other financial institutions.
The participation of senior officials from these institutions was intended to facilitate greater coordination and consistency in implementing Government of India policies related to reservation and accessibility.
Focus on Reservation Policy and Roster Management
One of the key objectives of the workshop was to strengthen participants’ conceptual understanding of the constitutional and policy frameworks governing reservation.
The programme addressed important areas including reservation policy, roster management and promotion-related provisions for Persons with Disabilities.
By improving operational understanding among officials responsible for implementing these policies, the workshop seeks to support more effective and consistent application of reservation provisions across public sector organisations.
Emphasis on Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities
Beyond reservation policy, the workshop placed significant emphasis on creating accessible environments for Persons with Disabilities.
The discussions covered different dimensions of accessibility, including:
- Physical accessibility
- Digital accessibility
- Workplace accessibility
- Inclusive institutional practices
- Accessibility under the Sugamya Bharat initiative
The broader objective was to encourage participating institutions to view accessibility not merely as a statutory requirement but as an important component of inclusive workplace development.
Moving Beyond Compliance Towards Inclusion
The DFS workshop highlighted the need for public sector institutions to adopt a more comprehensive approach to inclusion.
By combining discussions on reservation policy with accessibility and workplace practices, the programme sought to address both the policy and human dimensions of inclusion.
The initiative is intended to equip officials with the knowledge and operational understanding needed to strengthen implementation within their respective organisations.
Strengthening Institutional Capacity
The Department of Financial Services aims to build institutional capacity across the banking, financial services and insurance ecosystem through programmes of this nature.
Greater clarity around reservation frameworks, roster management and accessibility can help institutions improve internal processes while creating more inclusive working environments for employees and stakeholders with disabilities.
The Bengaluru workshop therefore represents an effort to strengthen awareness, implementation and accountability around inclusive policies across key public sector financial institutions.
DFS Focuses on Inclusive Transformation
The two-day workshop on Reservation Policy of Government of India and Accessibility for PwDs underscores the importance of combining policy implementation with meaningful accessibility.
As public sector banks, financial institutions and insurance organisations continue to work towards more inclusive workplaces, initiatives aimed at strengthening the understanding of reservation and accessibility policies can play an important role in institutional transformation.
Through the workshop, the Department of Financial Services reaffirmed the importance of ensuring that inclusion extends beyond statutory compliance to support accessible, equitable and inclusive workplaces across India’s financial sector.
